He is not the web-swinging superhero, but his winning composition will definitely put a stop to one of society’s major ills – corruption.
Rapper-songwriter and comedian PETER PARKHER (yes, his name is spelled with an H) snagged the grand prize for the First Anti-Corruption Songwriting Competition on May 12 at the AFP Theater, Camp Aguinaldo beating seasoned performers including 9th Avenue, Rueben Laurente and R&B princess Kyla.
Parkhers comedic performance and hard-hitting rap composition ‘Mahiya Naman Kayo’ bagged for him P250,000, a trophy and a free trip to the United Kingdom courtesy of The British Council. Jungee Marcelo won second place, taking home P150,000 and a trophy for his composition ‘Walang Kurap’ while Christine Bendebel (aka Warren D. Christie) placed third winning P75,000 pesos and a trophy. Her composition ‘Crossroads’ were interpreted by the singer-pianist ISHA. The competition is a part of the year-long activity of European Commission-Office of the Ombudsman (EC-OMB) with the theme ‘Building A Culture of Integrity and Excellence’. It received more than 200 entries nationwide from amateur and professional songwriters but only 10 compositions made it to the finals.
