A NEW RAP ARTIST who goes by the uncanny name of Peter Parkher and who goes around being photographed in Spiderman shirts won the GRAND PRIZE in the First Anti-Corruption Songwriting Competition held last May 12 at the AFP Theater, Camp Aguinaldo.  His publicists say Peter is deeply inspired by the web-swinging superhero.

Parkher made a full swing with his entry Mahiya Naman Kayo. He says he’s offering the song  to our country.  Parkher interpreted the song himself during a star-studded competition that also saw singers like Kyla, Rueben Laurente and the 9th Avenue Performing.

The young singer’s comic performance and hard-hitting rap composition bagged the 250,000 cash pot, a trophy and a free trip to the UK courtesy of The British Council.

Jungee Marcelo won second place, taking home 150,000 pesos and a trophy for his entry, ‘Walang Kurap’ while Christine Bendebel placed third with her composition, ‘Crossroads’, which fetched  for her 75,000 pesos and a trophy.

Christine’s entry was interpreted by ISHA, who’s also a songwriter.  Isha and Peter Parkher are both under Music Bridge and Media Trends.

The Anti-Corruption Songwriting Competition is a part of the year-long activity of European Commission-Office of the Ombudsman (EC-OMB).  The contest drew over 200 entries built around  the theme ‘Building A Culture of Integrity and Excellence’.

Ten compositions are named finalists.  They include  ‘Ang Kailangan Gawin’ by Gary Granada, ‘Sabay Tayong Magpalaki ng Maganda Ngayon’ by Mike Villegas, ‘I am a shield’ by Ruben Lopez Jr., ‘Simulan Natin’ by Chona Borromeo, ‘Tigilan mo na yan’ by Edilberto Reyes and Robert David for ‘Kahit Na’ and ‘Tayo ng Maglingkod sa Bayan’.

The contest night was hosted by Arnell Ignacio and Nanette Inventor.
